Top Ten Tuesday | pantone color of the year

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where book bloggers are invited to share their top ten lists centered on a certain theme.

This week’s theme was technically ‘bookish goals & resolutions,’ but this year I don’t really feel like making resolutions that will probably end up just stressing me out! Instead, I decided to do a top ten list around the Pantone colors of the year. I’m always fascinated by the colors picked for this, and this year Pantone announced that there’d be two colors: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow. So today’s list is my favorite gray and yellow book covers! Because who doesn’t like looking at pretty covers, right?

1. Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert: If you’re a romance reader, you’ve surely seen the Brown Sisters series floating around! I adored this romance so much, and the cover is just as perfect as the story.

2. Concrete Kids by Amyra León: This is part of the Pocket Change Collective, which is a YA nonfiction series that highlights up and coming young activists. I listened to Concrete Kids on audio and the writing was so stunning!

3. Harley in the Sky by Akemi Dawn Bowman: I’ve already gushed about this YA contemporary a bunch! If you like circuses, diverse books, and stories about mental health, you definitely need to pick it up. You can read my full review here!

4. Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger: This YA novel with #OwnVoices Lipan Apache rep was absolutely beautiful! It was magical and poetic, and also had asexual rep (which we definitely need more of).

5. Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson: I’ve mentioned this own before, but we just need to take a moment to appreciate that beautiful yellow cover! This was definitely one of my favorite books of 2020 and I could stare at the cover all day.

6. Dear Justyce by Nic Stone: This one is still on my TBR! It’s the follow up novel to Nic Stone’s debut, Dear Martin, which I absolutely loved!

7. I’ll Be the One by Lyla Lee: This YA contemporary about a fat bi teen in a K-pop competition was absolutely adorable! The cover just makes me so happy.

8. Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds: One of my all-time favorite YA books in verse! I recently also read the graphic novel adaptation, which was just as amazing.

9. Lifting as We Climb: Black Women’s Battle for the Ballot Box by Evette Dionne: This was definitley one of my favorite nonfiction books of the year! It details the history of Black women’s fight for voting rights, and is easy-to-read, interesting, and accessible nonfiction.

10. Anger is a Gift by Mark Oshiro: While the original cover is a purpley-blue, the paperback version has a stunning gray cover! This YA contemporary deals with police brutality, first love, and anxiety in such a thoughtful, beautiful way.
