Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where book bloggers are invited to share their top ten lists centered on a certain theme.
This week I’m sharing books that feature musicians or music lovers! I’m gonna be honest: I’m not that big of a music person. I know almost nothing about music, but I do love READING about music!
1. The Beauty that Remains by Ashley Woodfolk: Love this diverse YA contemporary about grief and music, that features teens who run a music blog!
2. Here We Are Now by Jasmine Warga: A wonderful #OwnVoices YA book with Muslim rep about a girl who discovers the dad she never knew is actually a famous rockstar.
3. Who Put This Song On? by Morgan Parker: This YA book about mental health takes place in 2008 and all the music references totally brought me back to my high school years!
4. This Is What It Feels Like by Rebecca Barrow: This YA contemporary about a group of once-BFFs trying to piece back together their band & their friendship is one of my favorites that totally deserves more hype!
5. The First Rule of Punk by Celia C Pérez: This middle grade novel about a girl starting a punk band is so cute! I read it with my middle school book club, who all loved it.
6. Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales: This queer retelling of Grease was so cute and I loved Ollie’s passion for music!
8. Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo: This 24 hour romance has been so popular at my library! I love that one of the main characters is a K-pop star!
8. Heavy Vinyl by Carly Usdin: Okay, who doesn’t want to read a comic about a bunch of queer girls forming a fight club in a 90s record store?!
9. Our Year of Maybe by Rachel Lynn Solomon: This is one of my favorites, and music plays such a big role in it! This YA contemporary deals with a complex friendship that is deeply shaped by music and dance.
10. On the Come Up by Angie Thomas: Angie is one of my favorite authors! Brie is an aspiring rapper who isn’t going to let anything stand between her and her dreams.
What’s your favorite book that features music?
I’m looking forward to Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales and I loved On the Come Up, fascinating book.

I don’t really read many books that feature music! I really enjoyed VE Schwab’s Monsters of Verity duology which features music quite a bit.

Ooh, nice to see another unique topic this week. The first book looks great, and so does Who Put This Song On? I am definitely curious to know what the music choices in that one will look like, even though a little part of me is like “*sob* what do you mean ‘set in’ 2008 like that wasn’t just last year…”
