Library Haul | December 14, 2019

“Library Haul” is my weekly post where I share all the things I brought home from the library this week! One of my favorite things about being a librarian is bringing home stacks of exciting new reads: books I snagged as soon as they hit the “New arrivals” shelf, hidden gems I stumbled upon in the stacks, digital books I found on Libby, advanced readers copies that arrived in the mail, and more. Even though I don’t always get through all the reads I bring home, I’m excited to share them!

Check Outs

Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane: I’m a sucker for a contemporary romance with an illustrated cover! I’ve heard that this one is a bit sad and more on the literary side of things, so I’m curious to see how I’ll like it.

As the Crow Flies by Melanie Gillman: I checked out this graphic novel after a teen in my library book club recommended it. I already read & loved it!

Bird Brain: Comics About Mental Health, Starring Pigeons by Chuck Mullin: This was a total impulse check-out after seeing it in the book return room at work.

Firefly: The Sting by Delilah Dawson: I love Firefly and had to check this one out as soon as I spotted it!

Digital

Immunity (Contagion #2) by Erin Bowman, audiobook narrated by Amy McFadden: My partner and I just finished listening to Contagion together (we commute together so we have lots of audiobook time in the car!) and are so excited to listen to the next installment in this sci-fi thriller series!

The Lost Sisters (The Folk of the Air #1.5) by Holly Black, audiobook narrated by Caitlin Kelly: After finishing The Queen of Nothing, of course I have to listen to this one!

Royal Holiday by Jasmine Guillory, audiobook narrated by Janina Edwards: Jasmine’s romances are all so cute and I’m looking forward to diving into this one.

When the Stars Lead to You by Ronni Davis: This YA contemporary book has been on my TBR for so long, so I hope I’ll actually have time to get to it before it’s due back!

All of my digital checkouts this week are from Libby.

Advanced readers copies

Cub by Cynthia L. Copeland: I minored in journalism, so I love anything involving kid/teen reporters! This historic graphic novel looks really cute. Out on January 7!

Chosen (Slayer #2) by Kiersten White: If you know me, you know that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is literally MY LIFE. I was impressed with Kiersten’s take on the Buffyverse when I read Slayer and am excited for this one! Out on January 7.

The Degenerates by J. Albert Mann: This graphic novel sounds incredibly heart breaking, so I know it’ll be a tough read. Out on March 17.

Of Curses and Kisses by Sandhya Menon: Sandhya is one of my absolute favorite YA authors and this is undoubtably one of my most anticipated reads of 2020! Out on February 18.

Chirp by Kate Messner: We are so in need of more middle grade books handling sexual abuse. Plus, any book with a blurb from Laurie Halse Anderson always has a spot on my TBR! Out on February 4.

Thank you Algonquin Young Readers, Simon Pulse, Antheneum Books for Young Readers, and Bloomsbury Children’s Books for the respective free review copies!
