It’s Monday! What are you reading? June 3, 2019

“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!

WHAT I READ LAST WEEK

WHAT I’M READING THIS WEEK:

40969415

Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey

Rom-com obsessed Annie has been waiting for her Tom Hanks and wishing that her life was a Nora Ephron movie. When a rom-com starts filming in her small town, she manages to land a job as the director’s assistant. Annie finds herself on a real movie set and face-to-face with Drew, a cocky, arrogant actor who definitely isn’t Annie’s Tom Hanks (or is he?).

I loved both of Kerry’s YA books, Love and Other Alien Experiences and Things Jolie Needs to Do Before She Bites It, and am so excited to read her adult romance debut! I’m just a few chapters in and I already can’t wait to see where Annie’s story goes.

39663218What We Buried by Kate A. Boorman, audiobook narrated by Emily Bauer & Graham Halstead

Siblings Liv and Jory have grown up very differently: Pageant queen Liv has been groomed for the spotlight, while Jory, who was born with partial face paralysis, was often forgotten. Now, Liv is suing their parents for emancipation, but when their parents vanish at the courthouse, the two siblings must unite to find them.

First of all, can we take a moment to discuss how creepy and eerie this cover is? This book is surreal and reality-bending, and I’m totally hooked on the audiobook! It’s creepy and I totally regret listening to it before bed last night. Can’t wait to see how this one ends, because right now, I have absolutely no idea what will happen!

  1. You often share YA titles I don’t know, Ari. Thanks for these. The Voice In My Head sounds good & that creepy one you’re listening to, wow!

  2. You have my vote for “creepy and eerie” on the cover of What We Buried — sounds like they nailed it, though. I see that I have The Voice In My Head on my Goodread’s to-be-read list, so we’ll see when we get a copy out here. Thanks for the shares, Ari, and I hope you have a great reading week!
