“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!
I use #IMWAYR mostly to organize my reading list for the week and set out my book goals.
WHAT I READ LAST WEEK:
- Miles Morales by Jason Reynolds, audiobook narrated by Guy Lockard
- Home and Away by Candice Montgomery
- The Other Side of Lost by Jessi Kirby
WHAT I’M EXCITED TO READ THIS WEEK:
A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi
This novel takes place in 2002, just a year after 9/11, and is about a 16 year-old Muslim girl named Shirin dealing with racism, xenophobia, and Islamophobia.
I’m so excited to finally read this #OwnVoices YA novel that I’ve been waiting for for months! I love that Shirin is a break dancer, which I haven’t seen featured in many YA novels. Despite taking place 16 years ago, this is surely one of the most timely, relevant, and important books of the year. I haven’t read anything by Tahereh Mafi, but I’ve heard so many great things about her work and am really looking forward to jumping into this one.
Autoboyography by Christina Lauren
Tanner’s had to keep his bisexuality a secret ever since his family moved to Utah three years ago. In his final semester of high school, he and his best friend Autumn decide to take a rigorous writing class together, where they’re expected to write an entire novel in a month. But Tanner’s not expecting to fall in love with his new writing mentor, Sebastian.
I’ve been really in the mood for a sweet queer romance and Christina Lauren’s novels have been highly recommended to me. I’ll be listening to the audiobook version and am excited for all the happy fluffy queer love vibes.
What are you reading this week?
I loved Miles Morales though I really am excited for the next one because I think it’ll really get into the story.
Happy reading this week 🙂
