Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings where bloggers share the books they can’t wait for. I use it here on my blog to highlight an upcoming release I’m excited for and tell you why it should be on your TBR!
Note: I am an affiliate of Bookshop.org and will receive a small commission if you choose to purchase via the link in this post. This is a way to support indie bookstores & the work I put into this blog! It’s appreciated, but never expected.

Synopsis: “Packed with voice, this is a powerful coming-of-age YA novel about a Filipina-American teen who tries to figure out who she really is in the wake of her mother’s death.
Some girls call their mother their best friend. Marisol? She could never relate. She and her mom were forever locked in an argument with no beginning and no end.
But when her mother dies suddenly, Marisol is left with no one to fight against, haunted by all the things that she both said and didn’t say. And when Marisol sleeps with her best friend’s boyfriend—and then punches said best friend in the face—she’s left alone, with nothing but a burning anger.
And Marisol is determined to stay angry. After all, there’s a lot to be angry about. But as a new friendship begins to develop, Marisol reluctantly starts to open up to her, and to the possibility there’s something else on the other side of that anger—something more to who she is, and who she could be.”

- As a Filipino-American reader, I’m always looking for books with Fil-Am rep!
- I’m a sucker for a coming of age book.
- Books about friendship are always my favorite!
- I also love books that tackle grief in a nuanced way, and I’m really curious to see how the complicated relationship between Marisol and her mother is handled.
- Books about angry girls are *chef’s kiss* in my opinion.

- Just. Look. At. That. Cover.
- If you like YA books that deal with family and grief like Summer Bird Blue, Turtle Under Ice, or The Silence that Binds Us, this one is totally up your alley!
- Looking to read more Filipino-American authors? Start here!
- If you enjoy coming of age novels, this is definitely one to have on your radar.
Is I’d Rather Burn Than Bloom on your TBR?

You might like the cozy mystery series by a Filipina writer that is quite popular right now. Arsenic and Adobo is the debut novel by Mia P. Manansala. This is the first book in a series called “Tita Rosie’s Kitchen Mysteries”.
