It’s Monday! What are you reading? April 29, 2019

“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!

WHAT I READ LAST WEEK

So many good books last week! I’m finally getting back into my normal reading rhythm and am excited to keep up my momentum, especially with all the exciting May releases on my TBR!

WHAT I’M READING THIS WEEK:

36442895Girls with Sharp Sticks by Suzanne Young, audiobook narrated by Caitlin Davies

Mena is a student at Innovations Academy, a boarding school where girls are trained to be perfect: beautiful, graceful, obedient. But as Mena begins to question the control that the academy has over her life, she and her friends begin to uncover dark secrets about their school, and about themselves.

After hearing good things from lots of people, I was eager to start this dystopian audiobook! I just started it yesterday and am already hooked. Can’t wait to find out how this sinister story ends! Also, just look at that creepy, ominous cover!

38739562With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo

This YA contemporary follows Emoni, a teen mom working hard to take care of herself, her daughter, and her grandmother, while she dreams of becoming a chef. I loved Elizabeth’s debut, The Poet X, and this is without a doubt one of my most ancitipcated books of the year!

I’m so excited to get started on this one, and I know I won’t be able to put it down once I do! Elizabeth Acevedo will be doing some book tour stops near me next month and I’m desperately hoping I can attend one.

With the Fire on High is out on May 7. Thanks HarperTeen for the review copy!
