“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!
WHAT I READ LAST WEEK
- On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
- Quiet Girl in a Noisy World by Debbie Tung
- The Young Elites by Marie Lu, audiobook narrated by Carla Corvo & Lannon Killea
- All is Fair by Dee Garretson
On the Come Up was just as amazing as The Hate U Give and definitely made last week an amazing reading week for me! I can’t wait for the rest of the world to read it and meet Bri. YA is so lucky to have Angie Thomas.
WHAT I’M EXCITED TO READ THIS WEEK:
The Past and Other Things That Should Stay Buried by Shaun David Hutchinson
I’ve been holding onto this ARC for months because I knew I’d be sad if I read it too early and then had to wait forever for another book from Shaun, since he’s one of my absolute favorite authors. We Are the Ants became one of my favorite YA books ever, and I haven’t stopped recommending it to both teens & adults since. At the Edge of the Universe and The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza are also amazing, and all of Shaun’s other books are on my TBR.
Now that I’m getting started on February releases, I can’t wait to dive into this one about BFFs and zombies (full of queer stuff, of course). It also sounds like a great read-a-like for Undead Girl Gang and I know I’ll be recommending it to teens at my library. Look for it on February 19!
The Rose Society by Marie Lu, audiobook narrated by Carla Corvo & Lannon Killea
The Young Elites had been on my TBR, and after starting & stopping the audiobook multiple times over the last year, I finally managed to finish it last week! My partner and I listened to it together and we’re definitely hooked. We just started the second one in the series and I’m hoping we can finish it this week so we can move on to the final book.
Even though fantasy is usually hard for me to get into, I’m really enjoying this series. I love Marie Lu’s writing, and I am so here for power-hungry girls full of darkness and vengeance.
What are you reading this week?
