“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!
WHAT I READ LAST WEEK
- Sorry Not Sorry by Jaime Reed
- Open Earth by Sarah Mirk, Eva Cabrera, & Claudia Aguirre
- There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins, audiobook narrated by Bahni Turpin
- Internment by Samira Ahmed
WHAT I’M EXCITED TO READ THIS WEEK:
I’ve already mentioned this short story collection many times and it’s a 2019 release that I was super eager to get my hands on! I’m excited for another powerful book celebrating Blackness that I can recommend to teens at my library. This book absolutely needs to be on the shelf of every public and high school library.
I’ve already gotten through the first story in the collection and am excited to read more! I’m planning on switching back and forth between the audiobook and the ebook. I’m definitely most excited for Brandy Colbert and Jason Reynolds’s stories, since they’re two of my favorite authors, but I’m also really looking forward to discovering some new-to-me authors in this collection.
The Young Elites by Marie Lu
My partner has recently gotten really into audiobooks (yay!) and we’ve started listening to them together. I’m so excited that we’re starting The Young Elites, since it’s one that I’ve started multiple times but never get around to finishing. Fingers crossed that I finally finish it! I love stories about power-hungry girls who are strong and powerful and want to destroy things.
It’s been a challenge for us to find audiobooks that we both enjoy, because I pretty much only want to listen to YA, while my partner mostly prefers adult science fiction and outdoorsy books (like Wild). Please let me know if you have any suggestions for books we might both enjoy!
What are you reading this week?
