TBR Highs & Lows is a meme hosted by Destiny at Howling Libraries(one of my favorite book blogs!), where bloggers feature the books at the bottom of their TBRs (the “lows”) and highlight new additions to the list (the “highs”). Visit Howling Libraries for more info if you’re interested in participating!
Here’s some of the books at the bottom of my TBR (but that I still want to read!):
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Dystopian isn’t in my usual realm of preferred reading, but I loved Tahereh Mafi’s A Very Large Expanse of Sea and would love to check out more of her writing. I have the audiobook checked out and am hoping to give that a try!
In Real Life by Cory Doctorow & Jen Wang
The Prince & the Dressmaker was incredible, and I’m really interested in seeing more of Jen Wang’s art!
Final Draft by Riley Redgate
This YA contemporary about a teen writer (with queer rep!) was one from my 2018 TBR that I never got to, but I’m hoping to get back to it someday since I love the idea.
The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
It’s pretty rare that I pick up an adult title, but I’m super curious about this one! It’s an interracial romance that features fake dating and it’s set in the SF Bay Area (one of my favorite settings, since I get to spot familiar places!).
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
This one has been recommended to me over and over again, but I usually never pick up fantasy. My coworker recently recommended the audiobook, so I’m hoping to listen to it soon (especially now that The Wicked King is out!).
Here’s what I’ve added to my TBR recently:
Inventing Victoria by Tanya Bolden
Release date: January 8, 2019
I just heard about this YA historical novel about a Black teen in post-Reconstruction America. I’m hoping to read more historical fiction in 2019!
Come Find Me by Megan Miranda
Release date: January 29, 2019
Does anyone else kind of love that 2000 Dennis Quaid movie Frequency? I’m lowkey hoping that this is a YA version of that (albeit, with a more complex plot) because I’ve always secretly dreamed of it.
What We Buried by Kate A. Boorman
Release date: February 26, 2019
Two very different siblings unearth dark family secrets as they search for their missing parents. This one has the eeriest cover!
I Wanna Be Where You Are by Kristina Forest
Release date: June 4, 2019
I honestly squealed when the cover for this one was revealed earlier this week! This YA contemporary debut is about a girl driving to (secretly) audition for her dream ballet conservatory against her mom’s wishes, and she may get into some hijinks along the way.
Just My Luck by Jennifer Honeybourn
Release date: July 16, 2019
I really enjoyed Jennifer’s When Life Gives You Demons and am really interested in reading her next one from Swoon Reads!
What have you added to your TBR recently?
The most recent additions to my tbr are:
– The Priory of the Orange Tree
– Senlin Ascends
– Tin Man
– Beautiful Revolutionary
– I’m Afraid of Men

This is probably going to be a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I’m actually going to recommend leaving The Cruel Prince on your TBR until the 3rd book comes out! I know it’s a year away, but honestly the cliffhanger at the end of The Wicked King is slowly chipping away at the remainder of my soul and I cannot in good conscience push anyone else into this horrible feeling of WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING, HOLLY BLACK that I’m living in. 😂

Ooh okay that’s good to know! I won’t rush to get to it. Thanks for the tip haha!

I definitely recommend you eventually get to The Wedding Date, I love the series and this book specifically so much!
I love Riley Redgate, but Final Draft fell a little flat for me. Her representation was amazing, but the book was interspersed with too many scenes from the main character’s book and a tv show she’s obsessed with, that it kind of took me out of the story.
