“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!
I use #IMWAYR mostly to organize my reading list for the week and set out my book goals.
WHAT I READ LAST WEEK:
- Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince by J. K. Rowling, audiobook narrated by Jim Dale
- Misfit City, Vol 1 by Kirsten Smith, Kurt Lustgarten, & Naomi Franquiz
- Everlasting Nora by Marie Miranda Cruz
- Goldie Vance, Vol 1 by Hope Larson & Brittney Williams
- Smile by Raina Telgemeier
WHAT I’M EXCITED TO READ THIS WEEK:
Art Boss by Kayla Cagan
I just started this diary-style follow up to Piper Perish and it’s refreshing to read something different that what I’d normally read. I haven’t read Piper Perish but Art Boss definitely reads as more of a companion than a sequel— you can definitely read it without having read the first one (though I’m sure Piper Perish fans will enjoy it more!). The diary entries, along with Piper’s witty voice reminds me of The Princess Diaries or From Twinkle, With Love.
The vivid descriptions of art and Piper’s sketches in the book add such a nice touch. Piper’s passion and her self-doubts make her so relatable. The art vibes are inspirational and have definitely made me want to do more art!
Analee, In Real Life by Janelle Milanes
This has been on my TBR for months, and I’m so excited to finally read it! It’s all about a teen girl gamer learning how to live outside her computer. I love YA novels about awkward, anxious, nerdy teens. Analee, In Real Life touches on family, friendship, and grief (some of my favorite things to read about!) and I’ve already heard so many wonderful things about it.
I’m also excited about the Cuban rep, plus, who doesn’t love a fake dating plot? And look at the cover! Analee, In Real Life should definitely be on your TBR.
Let me know if I should read Piper Perish! And I’d love to hear what you’re reading.
Misfit City looks good, and so does Analee in Real Life. I like stories like that too, with awkward teens learning to be themselves.

Most of your books are new to me. I read very few graphic novels. Analee in Real Life sounds good. I’ll be eager to hear what you think of it. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

Smile sounds really cute. And relatable – my younger girl had her braces for nearly three years.

I’ve seen several bloggers re-reading Hary Potter this summer and I kind of want to read it again, but I just finished a re-read of a series and I have to make a dent on my review TBR pile. I loved the audio version with Jim Dale so maybe I should go that route. See what I read this month at Girl Who Reads

It’s actually my first HP read! I just never read them as a kid and decided to finally try them this year.
