August Favorites & September Goals | 2018

This is my monthly wrap-up post, where I’ll be sharing some of my favorite reads & other bookish things from the past month, and talking about some of my reading goals for the upcoming month.

I read/listened to 18 books in August. Here’s the breakdown:

  • 6 were graphic novels
  • 12 were YA books

Come visit me on Goodreads to see the full titles, and keep up to date with my book recommendations.

MY AUGUST FAVORITES

I enjoyed most of the books I read this month and found lots of new favorite authors. These were my absolute favorites:

Sadie by Courtney Summers
This chilling story of sisterhood and vengeance was one I couldn’t put down. Sadie will rattle you and haunt you in the most powerful way. This was reminiscent of The Female of the Species, which is one of my favorite YA novels.

A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard
A lovely romance that discusses mental health and disabilities, with a diverse cast of characters. This novel had such a good depiction of a healthy first love full of communication, respect, and consent.

When Life Gives You Demons by Jennifer Honeybourn
A super fun read about a teenage girl being trained by her priest uncle to be an exorcist. Such Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibes, which I am so here for. Shelby was a relatable snarky protagonist that I really rooted for.

Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman
This was one of my most anticipated 2018 releases, and I was so lucky to read the ARC in August. It was a heartbreaking story of rebuilding your life after it’s torn apart by grief. Summer Bird Blue was a diverse book and it was so special to me, since I grew up in Hawai’i, which is where the novel takes place.

MY SEPTEMBER GOALS

  • My first goal is more middle grade fiction! I didn’t get the chance to read much MG in August, but I have a few on my TBR that I’m excited to read this month, including these:

  • My second goal is to listen to finish the Harry Potter audiobooks in September. I’m currently finishing up Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix and hope to get through the last two this month as well.
  • More graphic novels! This is pretty much always my goal.

Do you have any reading goals this month?
