Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where book bloggers are invited to share their top ten lists centered on a certain theme.
It’s Pride Month, so obviously I have to shout out some queer books! This week I’m sharing my top 2023 queer releases.

First, here’s 5 LGBTQIA books that have released this year that I love:
- Chasing Pacquiao by Rod Pulido: I’m always looking for more queer books with Filipino-American characters! I really enjoyed this YA contemporary about a queer Fil-Am boy who turns to boxing as a way to protect himself.
- Friday I’m In Love by Camryn Garrett: I love all of Camryn’s books, and this one was such a sweet one! It’s about a queer girl who decides to throw herself a coming out party, and was just such a beautiful celebration of queerness.
- Forever is Now by Mariama J. Lockington: This might be my favorite of Mariama’s books! It’s a verse novel following a queer Black girl who develops agoraphobia after witnessing a police brutality incident. It’s also set in Oakland, which I loved since I used to live there and it’s one of my favorite places.
- The Wicked Bargain by Gabe Cole Novoa: This YA fantasy about a nonbinary Latine pirate was so fun, and the audiobook was narrated by Vico Ortiz, who plays Jim on Our Flag Means Death, which was *chef’s kiss*
- The Luis Ortega Survival Club by Sonora Reyes: Sonora is easily becoming one of my favorite authors! This book tackles misogyny & rape culture while also having a wholesome story of friendship and a queer romance.

And here’s 5 LGBTQIA books releasing later this year that I can’t wait for:
- Gwen & Art Are Not In Love by Lex Croucher: You had me at “queer medieval rom com”! Historical fiction can be a hard sell for teens at my library so I’m always looking for fun historical reads that will appeal to teens. Out on November 28, 2023!
- Gorgeous Gruesome Faces by Linda Cheng: Spooky queer book? Heck yes! Horror & thrillers are always a huge hit at my library and I also have so many teens asking for K-Pop books, so this one really ticks all the boxes. Out on November 7, 2023!
- Damned If You Do by Alex Brown: I’m *screaming* about this one because it’s a blend of Filipino folklore & horror comedy AND it’s queer? It literally sounds like it was written for me. Out on August 1, 2023!
- Kween by Vichet Chum: I haven’t seen many YA books starring Cambodian teens, so this one is definitely at top of my TBR. Out on October 3, 2023!
- Night of the Living Queers: 13 Tales of Terror Delight edited by Shelly Page & Alex Brown: Always on the hunt for diverse queer horror, and this one features some of my favorite auhotes, like Kalynn Bayron. Out on August 29, 2023!
What are some of your favorite queer books?

Gorgeous Gruesome Faces sounds so good! I’ll have to add that to my wishlist 🙂

Thank you for bringing new books to my attention. I made a list of books last week for Pride, and there are plenty of YA books there.

We did the same topic this week! I also had The Wicked Bargain on my list, anything to do with pirates and I snap it up real fast. I had no idea the actor who plays Jim on Our Flag Means Death narrated it, that makes me even more excited, I love that show!
