“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!
Hey friends! I’m still processing all that happened last week at the Capitol; as a multiracial queer Jewish person, things feel really big and scary to me right now. But I feel extremely glad to have books to escape into and to help me work through some of my thoughts right now. I hope you’re all doing okay!
Note: I am an affiliate of Bookshop.org and will receive a small commission if you choose to purchase via the links in this post. This is a way to support indie bookstores & the work I put into this blog! It’s appreciated, but never expected.

- Make Up Break Up by Lily Menon
- This is Not the Jess Show by Anna Carey
- The Daughters of Ys by M.T. Anderson & Jo Rioux
- Girl Town by Carolyn Nowak
- Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex by Angela Chen
- Muted by Tami Charles

- Love Is a Revolution by Renée Watson
- The Long Ride by Marina Budhos
- Moonstruck, Vol. 3: Troubled Waters by Grace Ellis, Shae Beagle (Illustrator), Claudia Aguirre
The Long Ride was recommended by one of my coworkers and I’m super excited to start it! Love is a Revolution is one of my most anticipated February releases and I already know I’ll love it.
How are you feeling this week? What have you been doing to take care of yourself and process all that’s going on?

I’m a white, cis, atheist, and not even American, but I still find the events of the last week scary, I wish you safety, strength and peace.
Enjoy your reading week x

Last week was scary here in the US! So much for 2021 being better. Enjoy all your books. They are all new to me. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

Yes, what happened this week was terrifying. What made it even more frightening for me is that I wouldn’t have been survived to see some of my own family in the mob.
It looks like you have some good books and I’m glad that you were able to escape from reality with them.

Oh, Ari, I think all of us are alarmed & worried, wondering if those who are fighting for right will overcome those that hate. I think they will, yet it is so shameful to see and hear those who are supposed to be governing for America are only governing for Trump. I am one who would stand with you always. All the books you shared are new to me & it is exciting to see a new M.T. Anderson I didn’t know. Thanks, and best wishes to you this tough time.

Ari, I’m completely with you on trying to process. I just want to hide at home with my five children until our country is under new leadership. Still, I now know that an angry mob exists out there and, given the opportunity, they may rise up at any moment. 😦 I’m glad we all have books to escape into. Speaking of — I must have been hiding in a hole because I didn’t know about Renée Watson’s latest. I’m adding it to my list right now. Thanks for sharing!
