Library Haul | August 10, 2019

“Library Haul” is my weekly post where I share all the things I brought home from the library this week! One of my favorite things about being a librarian is bringing home stacks of exciting new reads: books I snagged as soon as they hit the “New arrivals” shelf, hidden gems I stumbled upon in the stacks, digital books I found on Libby, advanced readers copies that arrived in the mail, and more. Even though I don’t always get through all the reads I bring home, I’m excited to share them!

No physical check-outs this week, but tons of other stuff to share!

Digital

The Best Lies by Sarah Lyu, audiobook narrated by Nancy Wu: This is my current listen, and I’m loving this YA psychological thriller about a toxic friendship. Can’t wait to see how it ends!

The Grief Keeper by Alexandra Villasante, audiobook narrated by Ana Osorio: I love the concept of this speculative YA fiction novel about grief, and am hoping to start it soon!

Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors by Sonali Dev, audiobook narrated by Soneela Nankani: I’ve been wanting to read this romance for the longest time, and I’ve been on the holds list several times but have never been able to actually start it.

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson, audiobook narrated by Emily Ellet: I’ve heard AMAZING things about this YA fantasy (that involves a library!) and am excited to listen, even though I tend to be more of a contemporary reader.

Wicked Fox by Kat Cho, audiobook narrated by Emily Woo Zeller: I’ve been trying to read more books that take place outside of the US, and have heard great things about this YA fantasy-romance set in Seoul!

Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim, audiobook narrated by Kim Mai Guest: This YA fantasy has been described as Project Runway meets Mulan, and I’m so here for that!

Advanced readers copies

Some Places More Than Others by Renée Watson: Sooo ready for another Renée Watson book! Thanks Bloomsbury Children’s Books! Out on September 3.

Dear Sweet Pea by Julie Murphy: I love Julie Murphy and was ecstatic to receive her MG debut! Thanks Balzer + Bray! Out on October 1.

Take the Mic: Fictional Stories of Everyday Resistance edited by Bethany C. Morrow: I’ve loved seeing more short story collections in YA, and I absolutely love that this one is on the theme of resistance. Thanks Arthur A. Levine Books! Out on October 1.

The Library of Lost Things by Laura Taylor Namey: Any book about books gets added to my TBR immediately! Thanks Inkyard Press! Out on October 8.

The Story That Cannot Be Told by J. Kasper Kramer: A historical MG book set in Romania. This sounds super interesting! Thanks Atheneum Books for Young Readers! Out on October 8.

  1. *cries because you have an arc of Renee Watson’s newest book*

*also double cries because of the Take the Mic collection*

I need to read Sorcery of Thorns and Spin the Dawn. I’m so behind on my reading, and getting library books is so not helping!
