It’s Monday! What are you reading? May 20, 2019

“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!

WHAT I READ LAST WEEK

Last week was a great reading week! There are so many May releases and I’m reading at turbo speed to get through them all. Hopefully I can keep up my momentum! Also, don’t these covers all look aesthetically beautiful together?!

WHAT I’M READING THIS WEEK:

39863399 (1)Birthday by Meredith Russo

I’ve been waiting for another Meredith Russo book ever since I devoured If I Was Your Girl, and I’m so happy it’s finally here! Birthday is about two teens who become best friends for life after being born at the same hospital on the same day. Each section of the book takes place on one of their shared birthdays from ages 13 to 18, and I’m loving seeing Morgan and Eric grow up and the differences between each age.

This is such a unique concept, and I can’t wait to see how Morgan and Eric’s story ties up! Like If I Was Your GirlBirthday has own-voices trans girl rep.

Birthday is out this week on May 21! Thank you Flatiron Books for the review copy.

42202063Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens by Tanya Boteju, audiobook narrated by Soneela Nankani

I’m loving my current audiobook! This YA contemporary follows Nima, a queer brown biracial girl whose world opens up when she discovers the world of drag. Nima is struggling to deal with her mother’s unexpected leaving and being rejected by her longtime crush. Drag becomes a path to friends, love, and self, and I’m so here for that.

I love stories that involve queer awakenings, and Nima is such a loveable character! Plus, the f/f romance plotline is cute, and I’m curious to see where the story goes.

  1. I enjoyed Two Can Keep a Secret – probably even more than One of Us is Lying. And I’ve been meaning to grab up When Dimple Met Rishi, so I hope the sequel was enjoyable for you! Birthday is such a unique idea for a book and WOW at that overall rating of 4.47, so far. I’m going to have to add this one to my list. Thanks for sharing and for participating in #imwayr! I hope you have a wonderful reading week, Ari!
