TBR Highs & Lows is a meme hosted by Destiny at Howling Libraries (one of my favorite book blogs!), where bloggers feature the books at the bottom of their TBRs (the “lows”) and highlight new additions to the list (the “highs”). Visit Howling Libraries for more info if you’re interested in participating!

Here’s some of the books at the bottom of my TBR (but that I still want to read!):

Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira
A teen in my library’s book club recently recommended this book, which I’d never heard of before!

My Brother’s Husband, Volume 1 by Gengoroh Tagame
This queer manga has been recommended to me multiple times, and I really hope to actually read it soon.

I Am Out With Lanterns by Emily Gale
I adore this illustrated cover! This YA contemporary was published in Australia last year, and though I haven’t heard much about it, I’m intrigued!

The Upside of Falling Down by Rebekah Crane
Super interested in this YA contemporary about a teenage girl who wakes up in a hospital to discover she has amnesia after surviving a plane crash.

Stargazing For Beginners by Jenny McLachlan
Meg, a science geek, tries to win a competition to visit the NASA headquarters, while trying to care for her younger sister after being abandoned by their mother.

Here’s what I’ve added to my TBR recently:

The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta
Release date: August 8, 2019
This novel told in verse is about a queer mixed-race teen finding his way as a drag artist. This is totally the book I didn’t realize I was waiting for!

Dough Boys by Paula Chase
Release date: August 27, 2020
This is Paula Chase’s follow up to her middle grade title, So Done, which I really enjoyed!

Unpregnant by Jenni Hendricks & Ted Caplan
Release date: September 10, 2019
A YA contemporary about a girl trying to get an abortion. So glad to see more YA books dealing with reproductive health care!

Dark and Deepest Red by Anna-Marie McLemore
Release date: January 14, 2020
Another queer YA fairytale from Anna-Marie McLemore? What did we do to deserve this treasure?

Rick by Alex Gino
Release date: April 1, 2020
This middle grade debut is a historical story set during the Communist regime in Romania in the 1980s. I’m so excited to see more historical kid lit!

What’s the most recent book you added to your TBR?

  1. I just got an ARC for unpregnant… won’t be able to read it till August but can’t wait! I agree with you… it is so important right now with everything happening across the country to take away female rights.

Last thing I added to my TBR was the sequel to Gilded Wolves. I nearly dropped off the Arch when that was announced!

  2. I just read volume 1 of My Brother’s Husband and LOVED it! I read the whole thing on my lunch break and immediately put volume 2 on hold from another branch. 😂 It was so good. I’d love to hear what you think of it! ♥ Unpregnant sounds great — I’m with you, I’m so glad to see this being talked about — and I can’t wait for Dark and Deepest Red!
