It’s Monday! What are you reading? February 25, 2019

“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!

WHAT I READ LAST WEEK

Last week was super busy for me, so I didn’t get as much reading done as I had planned. But I absolutely loved both of the books I read! They were both such important books that I know I’ll be recommending a lot at my library.

WHAT I’M READING THIS WEEK:

35614314The Weight of Our Sky by Hanna Alkaf

This YA historical novel was one of my most anticipated releases of 2019 and I was so excited that my library’s copy was ready for me! This novel is about a music-loving teen with OCD in 1969 Malaysia. When tensions between the Chinese and Malays ignite violence, Melati and her mother become seperated. With the help of a newfound friend, Melati searches for her mom.

I’m about 100 pages in and am loving this book so far! It’s definitely a quick, easy read that will have you turning page after page. I love that The Weight of Our Sky features own-voices Muslim and Malaysian rep (I’m not sure if the OCD rep is own-voices or not).

37584991The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

After being on the holds list forever, I finally got this audiobook via Libby! I just started it this morning and am already almost halfway through because I couldn’t wait. After listening to The Wedding Date, I was eager to read more from Jasmine Guillory, and even more excited to see Carlos get his own book! I’m already hoping for a Courtney book from Jasmine!

A bunch of my audiobook holds came in all at once, so I’m hoping to get through this one as fast as I can so that I can get to all the other ones I have waiting for me. I’ve been listening to more adult fiction recently and have been enjoying romance more than I expected.

What are you reading this week?
