“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!
WHAT I READ LAST WEEK
I didn’t get too much reading done last week since I was busy with holiday shopping and holiday events for work. But I’ve got lots of exciting books on my TBR that I’m really looking forward to! (I also just noticed that the two covers above look so perfect together!)
WHAT I’M EXCITED TO READ THIS WEEK:
29 Dates by Melissa de la Cruz
Ji-Su’s tired of her parents and her family matchmaker obsessing over her future and dating prospects. After doing not-so-great on a test and blowing off a date for a night of fun with her friends, her parents send her off to finish her senior year in the US, away from all of her friends back in Seoul.
I just started this YA contemporary and am hoping to finish it up this week. I love that it takes place partially in San Francisco, and Ji-Su is a funny and relatable main character! I especially love the scenes of Ji-Su on blind dates, which usually end in hilarity. It’s also super refreshing to read about a character from outside the US and for whom English is a second language.
The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin
When Suzy’s best friend dies in a drowning accident, Suzy is sure that it must have been because of a rare jellyfish sting. Grieving, she sets out to prove her theory.
This middle grade novel has been recommended to me so many times! I just checked out the audiobook via Libby and am really excited to give it a try. Books about grief are always my favorite (I’m a sucker for a good sad book!), and I’d love to read/listen to more middle grade books dealing with tough subjects like this.
What are you reading this week?
