It’s Monday! What are you reading? December 3, 2018

“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!

WHAT I READ LAST WEEK

WHAT I’M EXCITED TO READ THIS WEEK:

34993791Match Me If You Can by Tiana Smith

I still can’t believe that 2018 is nearly over and I’m already starting on 2019 ARCs! I have a big stack of them that I’m trying to get a head start on and this one is up next. Match Me If You Can is a YA contemporary retelling of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and is out on January 8 from Swoon Reads.

Mia’s best friend Robyn is a teen matchmaker but when she refuses to set Mia up with the guy of her dreams, Mia takes matters into her own hands (but, of course, winds up in a huge mess). I always love books from Swoon Reads, and another reviewer described this one as a good readalike for To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, which has me very excited for it!

35887533Puddin’ by Julie Murphy

The Netflix adaptation of Julie Murphy’s Dumplin’ is finally coming out this Friday, December 7 (with music by Dolly Parton herself!) and I AM VERY EXCITED. While I not-so-patiently await the movie this week, I’m hoping to finally read its companion novel, Puddin’, which I preordered earlier this year when it first released but never got around to reading.

Julie Murphy is definitely one of my favorite authors, and I already know I’ll love this one just as much as Dumpli’ (although my favorite of hers is definitely Ramona Blue!). I figured that reading Puddin’ would be the perfect way to get in the mood for watching Dumplin’! Are you planning to watch the movie this Friday?

What are you reading this week?

  1. I’m also starting 2019 Arcs; can’t believe it’s less than month til New Year! 😱 A YA retelling of A Midsummer Night’s Dream sounds intriguing, I might have to check it out.

  2. I read Puddin’ and am afraid that I can’t quite see why everyone seems to be so excited about it. I hope you enjoy it. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  3. My daughter checked out Dumplin’ a couple weeks ago and I would love to read both book #1 and book #2 after hearing such good reviews. Can’t believe the adaptation is already out!! I have So Done checked out on Overdrive — hoping to squeeze that into my holiday reading. Thanks for the shares, Ari!
