It’s Monday! What are you reading? November 12, 2018

“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!

WHAT I READ LAST WEEK

I didn’t get too much reading done this past week because I was at a library conference. But I came away with lots of new ideas for library programs and services, and got to connect with lots of other teen librarians. I’m eager to try some of my new ideas out and get back to all the great books on my TBR.

In other exciting news, I’m now a reviewer for Kid Lit Exchange and can’t wait to start reading and reviewing more books!

WHAT I’M EXCITED TO READ THIS WEEK:

I’m currently still finishing up Dread Nation by Justina Ireland (audiobook narrated by Bahni Turpin) and Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand (so spooky! so atmospheric! and diverse!). I’m hoping to finish those two up this week and then get a start on these:

35794239Hey, Kiddo byJarrett J. Krosoczka

This graphic memoir has been getting amazing reviews and is a National Book Award Finalist. It’s about Jarrett’s childhood being raised by his grandparents, who adopted him because his mother was incarcerated, his search for his father, and his path to being an artist.

I love graphic memoirs and am really excited to start this one! Jarrett J. Krosoczka is also the author of the Lunch Lady series as well as the Jedi Academy series.

35068789So Done by Paula Chase

So Done is a contemporary middle grade novel about two best friends who, in the wake of summer, find themselves being pulled away from each other by middle school, secrets, and getting older. The Goodreads summary says it’s perfect for fans of Renée Watson’s Piecing Me Together, which was enough to make me put a hold on it right away.

My ebook hold on it finally came in this week and I’m really excited to start it. I love that the cover celebrates two very different-looking young Black girls! One of my biggest reading goals is always to read more middle grade fiction, and this is one I know I’ll love.

What are you reading this week?
