TBR Lows & Highs | September 27, 2018

TBR Highs & Lows is a meme hosted by Destiny at Howling Libraries (one of my favorite book blogs!), where bloggers remove older books (the “lows”) that they’ve decided not to read from their TBRs and highlight new additions to the list (the “highs”). Visit Howling Libraries for more info if you’re interested in participating!

Since I don’t have much I want to remove from my TBR, my “lows” will be older releases or books that have been on my TBR for a long time, but that I still want to read someday.

Here’s some of the books at the bottom of my TBR (but that I still want to read!):

Untitled design (4)

Mirror in the Sky by Aditi Khorana
A teen’s life is shaken up by NASA’s discovery of a mirror Earth where an alternate reality exists. This sounds so unique and it’s so great to see characters of color in Sci-Fi.

Everything Must Go by Jenny Fran Davis
This book, told in emails, journal entries, blog posts, and more sounds like such a fun read! Definitely something I want to save for when I need a pick-me-up.

Ready to Fall by Marcella Pixley
A teen struggling with his mother’s death finds a community of theater misfits at a new school. I love covers with minimalist yet beautiful line art!

If the Dress Fits by Carla de Guzman
Adult contemporary romance usually isn’t my jam, but own-voices Filipinx rep + fat rep is enough to make me read outside my usual genres!

It’s Not Like It’s a Secret by Misa Sugiura
I can’t believe I haven’t read this one yet! It’s a queer contemporary romance (i.e. one of my favorite kinds of books!) and I hear wonderful things about it all the time.

Here’s what I’ve added to my TBR recently:

Untitled design (3)

Quiver by Julia Watts
Release date: October 16, 2018
Two teens, one from an Evangelical Christian background and another who is non-binary and from a liberal background, forge a friendship. I love reading about opposites becoming BFFs, and I’m excited to see more non-binary rep in YA.

Mammoth by Jill Baguchinsky
Release date: November 8, 2018
A contemporary YA romance about a girl obsessed with paleontology and fashion. Natalie sounds like such a unique character, and I can’t wait to meet her!

Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott
Release date: November 20, 2018
This one, soon to be a movie, is about two teens with cystic fibrosis who fall in love. While it’s not something I’d normally read, I was hooked by the gorgeous cover.

Dear Heartbreak: YA Authors and Teens on the Dark Side of Love, edited by Heather Demetrios
Release date: December 18, 2018
Rather than a traditional anthology, this is a collection of letters from teens about heartbreak, with YA authors answering them. This is such an interesting concept and I’m super curious to see how it turns out!

When the Truth Unravels by RuthAnne Snow
Release date: January 8, 2019
A group of teen friends trying to sort through their trauma and pain together. This book sounds intense and heartbreaking (and it already has some great reviews on Goodreads!).

What have you added to your TBR recently?
