It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? July 23, 2018

“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. The folks at Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given #IMWAYR a new lens by focusing on books for kids & teens. Check out their blogs to see what they’re reading!

I use #IMWAYR mostly to organize my reading list for the week and set out my book goals. Here’s what I read last week:

Last week was really busy for me, so I didn’t get to all the books on my TBR, but I did enjoy the ones I was able to get through. I loved Moonstruck and am looking forward to Volume 2 coming out later this year.

And here’s what I’m hoping to read this week:

how to make a wishHow to Make a Wish by Ashley Herring Blake

My summer reading list is always in need of more queer love stories and this one has been recommended to me so many times. I’ve recently fallen in love with Ashley Herring Blake’s writing, and I have a feeling this one will be one of my new favorites.

After this one, I’m super excited to read Suffer Love, one of Ashley’s other books, which I’ve heard is just as amazing. If you have any other queer summer read recommendations, drop them in the comments!

hp goblet of fireHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling, audiobook narrated by Jim Dale

If you’ve read some of my past blog posts, you may know I’m slowly working through the Harry Potter audiobooks. People are always shocked that I’ve never read HP, especially since I’m a librarian. I just started this one and am hoping to finish it this week.

Hermione and I would definitely be BFFs. I would 100% join the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare.

wild beautyWild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore

As a contemporary-YA lover, I rarely read fantasy/magic. But since Anna-Marie McLemore will be visiting a local bookstore near me, I wanted to give this one a try. I’m not sure I’ll end up finishing this one, but I love the unique story and flowery cover.

The summary of Wild Beauty reminded me of a botanical garden I visited recently; it was cared for by three sisters who threw grand parties that many would travel to, and is now a regional park. It’s the perfect place to read this book, so I’ll have to make another trip there soon.

What are you reading this week? Do you read across genres or do you have certain ones you prefer to stick to?

    1. I’m about 60 pgs into Wild Beauty and I’m enjoying it so much more than I thought I would! I really thought I’d start it and DNF it, but I’m actually liking it even though it’s not something I’d normally read.

  1. I’m adding How to Make a Wish to my TBR list. Thanks for the share! Also, I remember being a bit surprised that the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare parts weren’t included in the Goblet of Fire movie — or the other house elf (was it Winky?). But I suppose I should be accustomed to book parts disappearing while becoming movies. LOL Have a wonderful reading week, Ari!

  2. have added Wild Beauty and How to Make a Wish to my list. Happily my library has both of them. I just need to find time to read them and the rest of the books on my list.
